Bear: Markdown notes for people inside the Apple world

A writing app with tags instead of folders and a design people stay for. Apple platforms only, and sync requires the subscription.

Bear is the app people pick when writing should feel pleasant. Typography, spacing and the editor itself get more attention here than feature count.

How it organises

Tags, not folders — and they nest. A note tagged #work/clients/acme appears under all three levels. In practice this beats folders for anything that belongs in two places at once.

The limits

Apple only. No Android, no Windows. If any device in your life runs something else, this is the end of the conversation.

Sync is paid. The app is free on a single device; using it on both iPhone and Mac requires the subscription.

184 MB for a text editor is more than it looks like it should be.

Who it suits

Writers who live entirely on Apple hardware and care how the page looks while they type. That is a narrow group, and Bear serves it better than anything else here.
