The name is generic — "Podcast App" — but the numbers behind it are not: over 300,000 ratings on iOS, and the developer's own claim to be the most downloaded independent podcast player on the platform.

Speed as the entire design philosophy. Saving an episode, building a playlist, and picking up where you left off are each built to take the fewest taps possible, on the assumption that you're usually doing something else while listening.

Search that goes deeper than titles — by topic, guest, or event, and within a single show for one specific episode someone mentioned.

Cross-platform from one company, not a corporate side project: the same app, same account, on both iPhone and Android.

What it costs

Visual ads on the free tier. Premium removes them and adds folders and per-show notification settings, but the base experience interrupts more than an ad-free indie app like Overcast.

Less brand recognition than Spotify or Apple Podcasts, despite the download numbers — the generic name doesn't help people remember it by word of mouth.
